Web Design in Kirkland

Kirkland is a small town with an oversized business list. About 19,400 residents on under ten square kilometres, and close to 400 industrial, commercial and institutional establishments inside those limits. That ratio is unusual, and it changes what a website has to do here.

EngiNerds Digital builds websites from Vaudreuil-Dorion, which puts Kirkland about fifteen minutes away on the 40.

Two Kirklands

There’s the corporate one. Kirkland sits at the junction of Highways 20 and 40, with the airport and the rail corridors close by, and that location pulled in pharma and aerospace: Merck, Pfizer, Zoetis, Jubilant DraxImage, Zodiac Aerospace, Nissan, Targray, Broccolini. If you’re a supplier, a contractor or a professional service selling into those buildings, your website is a credibility check. Somebody looks you up before the meeting, on a phone, and decides in ten seconds whether you’re serious.

Then there’s the neighbourhood one. Saint-Charles Boulevard runs the length of the town and carries most of the retail – Place Kirkland, Centre Kirkland and Centre St-Charles all sit along it. Clinics, restaurants, trades, studios, services. Here the website’s job is different: be found, be clear about hours and location, make it easy to book or call.

We build both, but not the same way.

The bilingual question in Kirkland

Kirkland’s 2021 numbers are striking. English is the language spoken most often at home for 60% of residents; French for 14%. But look at mother tongue and it splits differently: English 39%, French 17%, and a language other than English or French for 36%. More than a third of the town grew up in a third language.

So English became the common ground, and a lot of local sites were built in English only. Not a decision anyone agonized over – it just followed the customers.

Two things are worth knowing. First, Quebec’s Charter of the French Language has rules covering commercial publications, and websites can fall under those rules. The Charter was amended by Bill 96, in force since June 1, 2022, and where a site exists in more than one language the French must be at least equivalent – comparable prominence and comparable ease of access. Second, if you sell to the plants and offices along the 40, French is often a plain business requirement anyway. Corporate procurement asks. It’s easier to already have it.

We are not lawyers and we do not speak for the OQLF. We can’t tell you what the law requires of you. What we offer is a free, plain-English audit: we go through your site and list what’s English-only – pages, forms, PDFs, confirmation emails, the parts people forget. If you want a legal answer, ask a lawyer.

What we do

Business websites. Clean, fast, honest about what you do. For B2B in the industrial park, that usually means a real capabilities section, real certifications, and a contact path that reaches a human.

Bilingual builds. Both languages structured properly, with French written by someone who speaks it – not passed through a translation plugin and forgotten. French URLs, French metadata, French forms.

Local SEO. For the Saint-Charles businesses especially. Google Business Profile, the on-page work, and consistent listings. Searches here happen in both languages and you want to exist in both.

WooCommerce. If you’re selling parts, supplies or products, WooCommerce handles it without a monthly platform fee that grows with your sales.

Maintenance. Updates, backups, monitoring. One number to call.

Mobile apps. If you have a workflow problem – scheduling, field reporting, client portals – we can look at whether an app is actually the answer or whether a good web tool is cheaper.

Working with us

We quote a fixed price after one conversation. You know the number before anything starts. No ticket queue, no hand-off to a junior halfway through.

We have been building websites since 2016, mostly for small owner-run businesses across the West Island and Vaudreuil-Soulanges. If you want references, ask and we will put you in touch with past clients directly.

FAQ

Do you work with the companies in the industrial sector along the 40? We work with businesses that serve them, and with smaller operations directly. Large multinationals have global web teams. Their suppliers usually don’t, and that’s where we’re useful.

My site is on Wix / Squarespace. Can you fix it there, or does it need rebuilding? Sometimes we can improve it in place – speed, structure, content, SEO basics. If you need a real bilingual setup or e-commerce that scales, we’ll usually recommend moving. We’ll tell you which before you commit.

How long does a website take? Timelines depend on page count and on how quickly your content comes back to us. You get a date with the quote, and we hold to it. Bilingual adds time, mainly for writing the French properly.

Do you handle the French writing or do I have to supply it? We can write it. That’s part of the point. Supplying English and hoping a plugin covers the rest is how sites end up with French that reads badly to the people you were trying to reach.
